Common Core State Standards For College and Career Readiness.

                                                                            Standards
1. demonstrate independence.
2.  They build strong content knowledge.
3.  They respond to the varying demands of audience, task, purpose, and discipline.
4.  They comprehend as well as critique.
Demonstrating independence means that the student is able to think on their own and make their own decisions. Whether the decisions are good or bad, that's the point of being independent. Learning and making decisions in life that best fit that student. for a college student to be independent, they have to have a mind of their own and be a leader. In college, there is no teacher like we have in elementary school to hold our hand and be on our backs 24/7. College students are considered adults and have to learn how to lead for themselves and take care of themselves. You can't just depend on one, you have to go out and get it on your own. I have learned to be independent in my household and school community. At hoe I earn extra money by doing hair. That money goes towards things needed in the household or for myself. For example, paying my own cell phone bill.

Building content knowledge means that the student is able to connect prior knowledge to what they are learning now. Building content knowledge also allows the student to think outside of the box. No student is required to think inside of box. They build content knowledge on things they've seen, heard or experienced before and currently. One time in Pre-Calculus we were doing a math problem and I had to use a concept that I learned in my 10th grade year in order to solve the problem. This is an example of building content knowledge.

Students in college respond to the varying demands of audience by listening and actually taking in what is being told. They respond to different task and have to be able to complete the tasks. Every college students has a purpose on the campus that they eventually will fulfill by the time they graduate. Discipline plays a big role while in college. one has to follow rules as long as they live. Discipline also helps to mature one. While in high school i conquered many tasks and was able to adapt to other people personalities. Those same people I've learned to adapt to are some of my closest friends.

They comprehend as well as critique is about the students being able to understand work that is presented to them. They also have to show that they understand it through sometimes writing essays. In my AP-English class, I had to choose a theme to discuss and persuade the teacher to approve of it. To do so, I had to lots of research in the theme and understand it enough to persuade the teacher to approve of it. Sometimes in order to understand things you have to do research and ask questions.

What more students think?

Southeast shooting!

Before 9:00am Tuesday morning on, May 6, 2014 three males’ two 17 year old who are current students at Ballou Senior High School and a 20 year old, former student of Ballou Senior High School was shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, Washington DC, SE blocks away from Ballou high school.

                                             Shooting

Ballou Senior High School was on lock down after this happened. It all started after a fight that continued off the metro bus at 5th street on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue when a gunman pulled out a hand gun and started shooting in the direction up the street on Martin Luther King Avenue by the bus top and Washington Gas building. One 17year old was shot in front of the Washington Gas Center and the other 17year old was grazed by bullet and ran to Ballou Senior High School. The 20year old was shot in front of the store. No one has found the gunman yet. Police Officials are still looking for one gunman who is described as a teenager with a pony tail.

There is too many of your young ones dying and it needs to stop. There is too much violence!! Guns is not the solution to every problem. This generation needs a reality check and quick!! I am a teenager myself and I don't want to lose my life to any nonsense with this beef or violence. In today's society, nobody cares! Bullets do not have a name so anyone is at risk of being hurt. Hurting innocent people is wrong, so we need to put a stop to all of this.

Essay on dropping out of high school when 16.

When it comes to determining whether sixteen year olds should be allowed to drop out of high school, there are many factors one should take into consideration. One has to consider why the child is dropping out of high school at that young of an age, what the child is going through, and is the work too hard for the child to understand. The reason as to why the child drops out of high school doesn't really matter, the child should not be allowed to drop out of high school at the age of sixteen. There is help everywhere around, one just has to take advantage of it. A sixteen year old should not be allowed to drop out of high school at the age of sixteen because it will negatively affect them in so many different ways. Fewer job opportunities, poverty, unemployment, and an inability to advance are things that the child faces if they drop out of high school at the age of sixteen.
Teens that drop out of high school are more likely to have fewer job opportunities. In regards to the disadvantages of dropping out of high school, Barbie Carpenter remarks that “most entry level jobs require at least a high school diploma, if not a college degree”.2 Students that do not graduate from high school, will have fewer job opportunities because most jobs require a high school diploma. Jobs are looking for those with high school diplomas because that states that they have conquered the basic math, reading, and concepts needed to start at a job. Although just a high school diploma will not get you very far, although it's a start.
A teen with no high school diploma in this society will not survive financially. When discussing sixteen is too young to quit school in the new economy, Beth Nakamura asserts, “to reduce unemployment, social problems, and poverty, more people need more schooling”.5 Poverty is something that the teen will face if a high school diploma or college degree is not obtained. In order for one to make it in the today’s society, money is something needed. A sixteen year old who grows up with no sort of degree will risk not ever having a job. No job soon leads to poverty and other social problems. This includes not being able to buy food, house, clothes, basically the main things needed to survive. This is no life a teen growing as an adult would want to live. A high school diploma is very important. It's a start to help one get on their feet and get a job. This is why teachers, parents, and adults press children to at least finish high school if they don't do anything else because they know what the child would face if a high school diploma is not attained.
The rate of high school dropout varies and changes each year. In regards to, high school dropout rates, the author remarks that, “The percentages of male dropouts are higher than females”.3 Primary reason is because males are more likely to get caught up in the streets or other activities that would prohibit them from finishing high school. Females are more dominant in the society that we live in today. More of the males in today’s society are getting caught up in unnecessary things and activities outside of school which causes them to not be as successful as they should be. Society needs more males who are dominant so that they could lead the upcoming generation and show other males how to do right in life and be successful.
Sixteen year old who drop out of high school have an inability to advance in the workforce and economy. When discussing what parents do to stop high school dropouts, Maggie McCormick asserts that, “Dropping out of high school is likely to decrease one’s jobs prospects and earning potential throughout their life”.4 If a child drops out of high school and gets a job at a local McDonald's that pays minimum wage, the child doesn't have any other option but to work their because they have not graduated from high school yet. Jobs like McDonald's allow students who are still in high school to work their so a student who drops out of high school can get by. The chances of a sixteen year old who drops out of high school chances are short of being able to work at a high level, or good paying job. Those types of jobs require a high school diploma or college degree. That teen will not be able to advance unless they go back for more schooling to earn a high school diploma or college degree. There are also other options to get schooling other than a public or local school. Parents can think of alternative schools or homeschooling. There are more options but the parent and child have to be willing to take such steps to ensure that a high school diploma is obtained. This society needs more successful women and men. It benefits the economy and themselves.
Many may say that there is nothing wrong with dropping out of high school at the age of sixteen. When discussing is dropping out of high school as bad as society says it is, Hunter Bliss asserts that “school is a place where you are taught what “box” to think in, and it is very obvious that it doesn't work for majority of the students”.1 While disagreeing, students are only taught the basic math and reading skills in high school to prepare them for the real world and college. All students do not think inside of a box but also thinks outside of the box because that’s what makes them different and unique. It also gives the students the ability to advance because they are not just thinking inside of the box but thinking of other ways to solve problems or work around certain situations. This allows the child or student to advance more in life because they are not just thinking inside of the box.
Teens that dropout of high school will face many difficulties in life such as unemployment, poverty, and failure to advance. Although these are just a few difficulties they will face, they will also be affected in the long run. A high school diploma doesn't take one far, but it gives them a jump start in the job industry. Teens must stay in high school and obtain at least a high school diploma in order to get a job and succeed as a teenager in society. Obtaining a high school diploma gives one the ability to apply for those minimum wage jobs and apply for things like housing. It is not hard to stay in school and graduate with a school diploma but one must be determined, encouraged and devoted.

Norfolk State University my TOP CHOICE!

Norfolk State University
Personal Statement
My goal and dream is to become a registered nurse and I strongly believe that Norfolk State University will help me to reach that goal. Last year in my 11th grade year, I heard about Norfolk and the opportunities and academic programs they offer, I was really excited about finding out more about the school. I decided to visit Norfolk last summer and I fell in love with the campus. The first thing that caught my eye was the new nursing department building they were building. This was the first thing that caught my eye because my aspiration in life is to become a registered nurse and take care of those who are in need and cannot take care of themselves. Furthering my education at Norfolk would definitely be a great experience for me. This journey will help me become a well-rounded, educated young female in the society that we live in today. Norfolk State University encourages and motivates their students to realize their full potential and this is the type of environment I want to be a part of.
I've always wanted to become a nurse and take care of those who aren't able to take care of themselves. One thing in my career that would make me happy is to see smiles on the faces of those who are hurt or sick. That is one of the qualities needed to become a nurse. One has to be joyful, caring, patient, and well-rounded. The nursing field comes with high expectations and skills and I believe Norfolk’s nursing program will help me meet those expectations. Norfolk State University is where I would love to further my education. Being able to focus and be pushed by those who care about one’s future is something that is important to me. I would love to be a part of Norfolk’s community and I consider Norfolk State University my top choice school.

Donald Sterling

As we all know, Donald Sterling is the owner of the basketball team known as the Clippers. Some may know him as the man who made the racial comments. These racial comments may cause Donald Sterling to be banned from being the owner of the Clippers. The funny part  about this is that he was caught on tape saying these racial comments and wasn't man or bold enough to just come out and say how he felt.

Reporters say that as punishment, Sterling is now being forced to tell the team the racist comments he made. Reporters also say that they believe that Donald Sterling is not a racist, it was just something said in the moment. He says, "I feel alone with this whole thing". Others are pushing Donald Sterling to just apologize for what he said and move on with life. I strongly agree with this. Although, making racial comments isn't cool or good, but he should at least explain himself and apologize for what he has done.

Donald Sterling should have never said anything racial out his mouth but who are we to judge. Yes, he was wrong. He has a full team of NBA players who look up to him and he leads. That's not a good look on Sterling's behalf. With the power and authority Sterling has, why would he put that in danger? We don't know. All we can do is hope that Sterling can come out and apologize for what he has said. Our society needs to be done with this whole racism thing!!!

Homelessness

March 24, 2014
Tamiya Hall
Proposal: Homelessness
This is a project that is going to help advocate for the homeless and reach put to help.
Needs and Opportunities
The problem that I have noticed with homelessness is that the number of people being homeless is increasing. These numbers aren’t just increasing in the DMV are but across the world as well. This is a major issue in the DMV area because this is where I reside and, it represents us as a whole. Men and women of all ages are living in the streets with no food, shelter, money, clothes, and etc. I know it is not our job to take care of them but everyone can pitch in to help, and do something. This is a huge problem and some sort of action needs to be taken.
Audience / Clients / Users
The audience is those who live in the DMV area. It can also be those who don’t and are just advocating to help. My main target is those who live in the DMV area. I say that because we live here and we because of that we should be the first to help. My purpose for this project is to let everyone know how homelessness is affecting our area, and the things we could do to help. The people that would benefit from this project are the people who are homeless. I will make it my best to advocate for them and get people aware of the problem so they could help. This would also benefit those who help. Not only will it make them a better person but, it will also make them feel like they have made our society better.

Product

The actual product I will show this spring is me actually outreaching. I will advocate and show that during the spring.
Reality Check
The equipment I am going to need to complete this project is a camera, and people to help advocate basically. These things are needed because it plays an important role in trying to get my message across.
Conclusion
I am so tired of seeing the people who live in our area homeless and we aren’t doing anything to help. It shouldn’t be this way. We spend money on these expensive things that we do not need but can’t help feed, clothe the homeless or, give money to organizations every month and go help feed the homeless. It is the little things that count. I care about our society and the people in it. Nobody knows what those homeless people are going through so I just want to lend a helping hand and care, can you all do the same?

Quarter 3 Refection

I want to start off by saying that I am so happy that I have a B (85%)in AP-English. This is the highest grade that I received in this class. I plan to get a higher percentage in fourth quarter. A triumph of success from third quarter is that I kept my grade up in AP and stay on top of my scholarships that were due. I received all A's and B's in my classes except Pre-Calculus (H). Other than that, I am proud of myself and the effort I put in to those classes that I'm passing.

A failure or disappointment from third quarter is me failing Pre-Calculus (H). This is the first time that I have scored that low in Ms. Nguyen class. I am not proud of myself at all because honestly, I gave up. Reason being because, when Unit 2 exam came, I studied, went to office hours for about 3 hours and still failed the exam. That was so frustrating. I feel like I did all I can and still failed. I gave up after that, and it shows in my grades. Now, I am struggling trying to bring my grade back up. I can't blame nobody but myself. Now, I am doing everything needed to do to bring my grade up in that class. I am attending office hours more often, studying more, and actually putting effort into the work that I do.

Something that I am looking forward to in fourth quarter is getting an B+ or higher in AP-English. This is important to me because I've never got above a C in previous quarters so accomplishing this goal would be a a huge success for me. Something else I look forward to in fourth quarter is finding a college I would be interested in going to. I am just eager to pass fourth quarter, finish strong, graduate and get ready to go to college.

A personal goal for fourth end of the quarter is to stay on track and focused. I get side tracked sometimes but, I am going to stay focused because graduating is something important to me. Another goal is to not let myself get stressed out so much. I tend to stress over the littlest things and I shouldn't. I like how I am heading into fourth quarter. I believe I'll finish strong.
